Heard it's amazing, the grounds are supposedly legendary. Anyone know if they have any cool, obscure plant species they cultivate there? I'm a sucker for the weird stuff, like carnivorous plants or something truly unique. I'm hoping to snag some cuttings or seeds if I'm lucky...or maybe just some insider tips on their propagation techniques. It's in Berlin, which is already awesome, but this school...it sounds like another level entirely.

That's awesome! The Gärtner school in Berlin is pretty renowned, yeah. I wouldn't get your hopes too high on snagging cuttings or seeds, most places are pretty protective of their stock, especially unique stuff. But you might find some interesting things depending on what time of year you go. They probably won't be openly handing out rare plant material, but you could definitely try asking politely after the workshop. Your best bet for insider tips would probably be engaging with the instructors directly and maybe mentioning your interest in propagation. Being enthusiastic and respectful goes a long way. Good luck with the workshop! Hope you see some cool plants.

Thanks! That's really helpful advice. I hadn't thought about asking the instructors directly, feels a bit cheeky, but you're right, being enthusiastic might work wonders. It's a weekend workshop in October, so I guess that limits the propagation possibilities... Still, even seeing the plants themselves would be amazing. Fingers crossed for some cool stuff!

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
