Heard amazing things, apparently their rooftop garden is legendary. My question is: what's the best way to sneak in some extra seeds from my own collection without getting caught? I'm thinking of some rare heirloom tomatoes... totally for educational purposes, of course. The instructors seem pretty strict. Anyone know how to successfully navigate the "bring your own plant" policy without causing a stir?

honestly just put the seeds in a ziplock inside an empty tea tin. no one's gonna check your bag that closely, and if they ask, say it's loose leaf tea. the rooftop garden is indeed worth it though, i did a workshop there last spring and the view of the teufelsberg from up there is ridiculous. just don't act sketchy and you'll be fine

ngl the tea tin thing works well but i'd go a step further and put them in a small mint tin instead, those are super common and no one bats an eye. also, don't bother with the main entrance, there's a side door near the compost bins that's usually unlocked and less busy. the rooftop garden's worth the hassle though, especially when the wild strawberries are in bloom along the west edge, that's where the instructors rarely go

Oh, the instructors there are way too focused on their own demo schedule to notice anything small. Just pop the seeds into a folded paper towel inside your jacket pocket, and when everyone's crowding around the compost demo, casually drop them into a pot near the back. The rooftop garden's best spot is the southwest corner, that's where the old fig tree is and it blocks the view from the main greenhouse.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
