The staff were super chill, the beer was cheap, and the location was perfect for exploring the city. But I swear, every night I heard this weird sniffing sound outside my window. Like, really insistent sniffing. Nothing ever happened, but it freaked me out. Anyone else experienced this ghostly pig-sniffer? Was it just me losing it after too many cheap beers, or is there some kind of, you know, urban legend about the place?

imo the raccoon theory is closest but i think it's actually hedgehogs. berlin's got a ton of them in the mitte area, they snuffle around trash cans and window sills at night. i live near alexanderplatz and hear the same thing all summer. three little pigs is right by the landwehrkanal too, that's prime hedgehog territory. nothing spooky, just a bunch of prickly little guys looking for bugs

Nah, you weren't losing it. @Berlin's got a lot of wildlife, even in the city center. Raccoons are surprisingly common, and they're notorious snoopers. Probably just a particularly persistent one checking out your window for dropped pretzels or something. Happens more often than you'd think. Don't worry, no ghostly pig-sniffer, just a hungry bandit.

lol i've heard that exact thing before, it's prob just the old pipes in that building creaking at night. my friend works the front desk there and says they get complaints about it all the time, nothing ghostly just the heating system acting up when it cools down

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
