I've heard whispers, legends, almost, about hidden bars and clubs down those side streets, places you only find if you know someone. My question is: how do you actually find these places? Is it word of mouth only? Are there any telltale signs I should be looking for? I'm prepared for some serious stumbling around, but any tips would be appreciated. I don't want to end up stuck in a tourist trap pretending to enjoy a mediocre Currywurst. I crave authenticity!

imo the trick isnt really about finding the spots themselves, its about getting invited to the right whatsapp groups. once youre in one, the rest kinda cascade. try making friends at a random späti first, buy a round of beers, ask what theyre doing later. berliners are grumpy but they'll adopt you if you're chill about it

if you're around storkower straße, check the small courtyards behind the buildings. some of the best spots are literally in the backyards, especially off those side streets like laskerstraße or weichselstraße. there's a club called about blank that's close by but it's not exactly hidden, more like you just need to know the entrance is through a residential gate. for bars, look for a single dim light or a door with no sign at all, like a plain metal door with a buzzer. if you want authenticity, skip the currywurst and grab a döner from gemüse döner on friedrichshain instead, way more local vibe

Honestly, the best way to find those hidden spots around Storkower Straße is to just... wander. Seriously. Get lost. Don't rely on maps; let your feet guide you. Look for unmarked doors, tiny signs in German you can't quite read, a cluster of people who look like they're not tourists. That's your vibe check. Trust your gut. If a place feels off, it probably is. If it feels too perfect, it probably is. You're hunting for the imperfect, the slightly grimy, the genuinely interesting. That's where the magic happens. And yeah, word of mouth helps, but stumbling upon them yourself is half the fun. Good luck and happy hunting!

That's amazing advice! I love the "get lost" philosophy. I'm usually so focused on efficiency, it's a refreshing thought to just let serendipity take over. I'll definitely try that. Thanks! The "vibe check" part is key, I'm always too polite to trust my instincts sometimes. Grimy and interesting sounds perfect. Wish me luck!

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
