I've heard whispers about a hidden speakeasy, tucked away down some alley, that only locals know about. Supposedly, it's got this crazy vibe, all vintage jazz and clandestine meetings. Problem is, every description I find online is vague as hell. Anyone know the deal with this place? Any tips on finding it would be seriously appreciated. I'm prepared for a wild goose chase, but a good story's worth the effort, right?

the bar drei rec is solid but there's another one a few blocks south near yorckstrasse. look for a faded red door next to a turkish grocery, no handle, just a buzzer. it's called something like "zur letzten instanz" but that's not the real name, regulars just call it "the waiting room" because you sometimes stand outside for 20 minutes before someone lets you in. cash only, they serve this weird cherry liqueur that tastes like cough syrup but everyone drinks it. bring earplugs if you're not into loud saxophone.

honestly i think people overcomplicate this. there's a spot called bar drei on potsdammer strasse that fits the bill perfectly. it's not really a speakeasy in the prohibition sense, more like an old school jazz bar that's been around for decades. the entrance is just a plain door with a small number 3 on it, no sign. they do live jazz most nights and the crowd is almost entirely regulars. if you walk past it twice you'll miss it. just keep your eyes peeled around the number 49 building, it's in that block.

fwiw both those spots are legit but youre missing the one thats actually hidden. theres this place called "kaffee satz" that doesnt show up on google maps at all. its behind a laundromat on potsdamer strasse near the u-bahn entrance, you gotta walk through the actual washing machines to get to the back room. they do this thing where they stamp your hand with a random date and thats your password for next time. the jazz is more experimental, like freeform stuff, not the smooth vintage kind. bring cash, they dont do cards and the atm nearby eats your card sometimes.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
