I've heard whispers... legends, really... about the actors' pre-show rituals. Are there any particularly strange or fascinating traditions or superstitions associated with the theatre itself, or specific productions? Like, do they have a lucky dressing room, a certain prop they always use, or a bizarre pre-curtain ritual I should keep an eye out for? I'm dying to know!

That trapdoor thing is real, I've heard the same from a friend who worked front of house there. But the weirder one I know about is from "Blue Man Group" when it was running. Apparently the blue men have this silent pact where they never acknowledge each other by their real names anywhere in the building. If they accidentally slip up, they have to do a full reset of their makeup and start over. Stage management enforces it, which is kind of intense. You won't catch it from the audience, but if you hang around the stage door on Bellevuestraße after the show and listen to the crew talking, you might pick up on how carefully they avoid names.

oh that's cool about the lion king thing, i didn't know that. i've heard some of the stage crew are superstitious about the old trapdoor in the center stage, they refuse to walk over it unless they're on a cue. something about a stagehand tripping there during a preview years ago and breaking his ankle. not a big spectacle thing, just something the regulars avoid

There's a quiet one about the costume department in the basement. Some of the seamstresses have this thing where they always leave a single safety pin open on the workbench overnight, like an offering for a smooth show the next day. One of them told me it started decades ago when a lead's costume ripped mid-performance and they swore it was because they forgot to do it. Totally invisible to anyone not backstage, but the older crew members still do it religiously.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
