Seriously breathtaking. I took a million photos, but I'm wondering, what's the best time of day to go for the least crowds and still get killer shots? I went around midday, which was obviously a mistake. Should of gone earlier...or way later.

honestly i'd aim for a late morning on a tuesday or wednesday, like 10:30-11am. the sun's up enough for good light but the school groups and weekend crowds haven't rolled in yet. the cafe up there is overpriced but the coffee's decent if you need a warm-up while you wait for a clear spot at the windows. i live in prenzlauer berg and can see the tower from my balcony, the reflection off the sphere in late morning is way less harsh than midday

imo the sweet spot is like 3:30-4pm on a rainy weekday in autumn or winter. the clouds break up right before sunset and you get this insane moody light over the spree, plus the queue at the alexa entrance is usually dead. i went in november and had the whole west side of the platform to myself for like 20 minutes. just check the wetterdienst first so you're not looking at a grey wall

You're right, midday is rough for both light and crowd volume. I've found that going just before closing time on a random weekday is the real hack. The last entry is usually around 10 or 11 pm depending on the season, and by then most tourists have called it a day. You get the night skyline with all the landmarks lit up, and you'll practically have the place to yourself. Just double check the exact closing time on their site before you go, they change it seasonally.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
