Netto Marken-Discount's Checkout Chaos?

Not bad, just...intense. The checkout lines were longer than the queue for the last bratwurst at a Christmas market. People were practically wrestling over the last bag of discount pretzels. Seriously, it was like a low-stakes Hunger Games, but with discounted groceries. My question is: Is this level of aggressive shopping a normal Netto experience, or did I just hit it on a particularly ravenous Tuesday?

Netto's checkout chaos is basically a Berlin rite of passage, like getting yelled at by a Fahrradfahrer for stepping in the bike lane. The trick is to go right when they open at 7am or an hour before closing on a weekday, that's when you can actually breathe. If you want to avoid the pretzel wars entirely, the Rewe on Oranienstraße has a self-checkout that rarely has more than two people in line.

pick your netto carefully is the real answer. the one on schlesische straße is actually pretty civil, i think the cashiers there have some kind of secret pact to keep the line moving. but the one at frankfurter tor is a different beast, thats where i saw a woman literally climb over a stack of crates to get to the bakery section first. if you want the discount prices without the arena vibes just walk ten minutes to the kaufland at ostbahnhof, way more space and the self checkout never has more than three people

You found the one that still has the old checkout system. The newer Netto locations with the conveyor belt scanners move way faster, but the older ones where the cashier has to physically grab everything? That's where the chaos lives. Try the one on Danziger Straße if you're in Prenzlauer Berg, it's got the newer setup and the staff actually call out for backup when the line hits five people.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
