Grunerstraße's Hidden Sounds?

The street art is incredible, seriously, some of the best I've seen. But I noticed something weird, at night, there's this low hum, almost a vibration, that seems to come from the pavement itself. It's not traffic noise, it's... deeper. Anyone know what causes that? Is it some kind of urban legend, or is there a perfectly reasonable explanation I'm missing? It felt kinda unsettling, yet fascinating at the same time... almost like the street itself was breathing.

fwiw i've lived near there for about 4 years and the hum changes pitch depending on the season. in winter it's lower, almost like a cello note, and in summer it gets slightly higher. i asked a friend who works at the bezirksamt and he said it's the groundwater pumps adjusting to the water table level. the whole area is built on marshland basically, so there's a constant system pumping water out from under the foundations. that machinery creates the vibration you're feeling, and it changes as the pumps work harder or slower depending on rain and temperature. kinda wild that the whole street is basically floating on a machine

honestly the heating tunnel and u-bahn theories are both solid but there's another layer to it. the old telephone exchange building on the corner used to have these massive diesel generators in the basement for emergency power, they're still there just decommissioned. the fans and cooling systems create this residual hum that travels through the foundation into the street. i used to work in that building and you could feel it even during the day if you put your hand on the floor in the stairwell. pretty sure the city never properly disconnected everything so it just keeps vibrating

all the tunnel and pump theories are right but there's also the old s-bahn freight line that runs under the südstern side of things. it's been abandoned since the 80s but the ventilation shafts still connect to the surface and when wind hits them just right they create that resonance. if you walk to the end of grunerstraße near the spree you can hear it change tone completely

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
