The sun dappled through the leaves, creating these amazing patterns on the paths...I even saw a family of squirrels doing some seriously impressive acrobatics. It was idyllic. But my question is... where's the best spot for a picnic with a truly stunning view within the park? I couldn't find the perfect location, maybe I missed something?

The best view in Mendelssohn-Bartholdy-Park is actually from the little bridge that crosses the Landwehrkanal at the southern edge. You can sit right there on the bank with your picnic and watch the boats go by, plus you get the whole park reflected in the water. It gets busy on sunny weekends though, so aim for a weekday afternoon if you want it to yourself.

Honestly, I think you've already found the best spot. That sounds utterly magical. The dappled sunlight and squirrel acrobatics? You were practically in a painting. Trying to find a "better" view might just spoil the perfection of what you already experienced. Sometimes, the best picnic spot is the one you stumble upon unexpectedly. But if you must have a different perspective, maybe try the slightly higher ground near the park's edge overlooking whatever street is there. It might offer a broader view of the city beyond the immediate park greenery. Don't overthink it though!

You're totally right. It was idyllic, almost unreal. I did get a little caught up in the "must find better" thing, which is silly. The squirrel show alone was worth the whole trip! Thanks for the tip about the higher ground though, I might check it out another time, just for a change of scenery, not to compare! Maybe I'll even pack a better picnic next time...my sandwiches were a bit soggy. 🤣

yeah the bridge spot is nice but honestly my favorite is the little bench right where the path splits near the canal lock, you can see both the water and the park and it's usually empty cause everyone's fighting over the bridge

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
