Everything was super swanky, but I noticed something weird. Every morning, there was this faint, almost imperceptible scent of...cinnamon? It wasn't coming from the breakfast buffet, that was all croissants and stuff. It was subtle, but definitely there. Anyone else ever experience this ghostly cinnamon aroma at the Hilton Berlin? Maybe it's a secret ingredient in their cleaning products, or maybe...something else entirely. Spooky.

hilton berlin is right by gendarmenmarkt, right? that whole area has this weird mix of old east berlin vibes and new money. maybe the scent is just seeping in from one of those fancy candle shops on friedrichstraße? there's a store called "the fragrance kitchen" or something in the hackescher markt area that does custom hotel scents. not spooky, just berlin being berlin with its obsession for branding every damn thing.

fwiw my cousin works front desk at the hilton berlin and she said they switched to this organic cleaning brand called "scentstory" like a year ago. apparently the cinnamon one is their "winter collection" but someone in procurement messed up the order and now theyre stuck with it year round. she hates it lol says it makes the whole place smell like a mulled wine stall that never left

It could be from the spa. The Hilton Berlin shares a wellness area with the adjacent building, and they use a cinnamon-based essential oil blend in the sauna and steam room. It's strong enough to drift into the hallways on that side of the hotel, especially in the morning when they refresh the aroma stones. I've noticed it too, but it's definitely more "wellness branding" than ghost.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
