Any tips on navigating the spice levels? I don't want to be crying into my rakı all night! My friend said some dishes are notoriously fiery... Any recommendations for a milder but still authentic experience?

The Bosphorus view spots in Ortakoy are your best bet for that meze and rakı combo. Places like Korfez have a solid outdoor terrace right on the water, and their kitchen is used to tourists asking for milder versions of classics. Just skip the şalgam on the side if you're spice sensitive, that's the fermented carrot juice that'll really light you up.

I'd actually suggest going to one of the balık ekmek boats near the Galata Bridge instead of a sit-down place for your first meal. The grilled fish sandwiches are cooked plain, no spice at all, and you can stand there watching the ferries come in while you eat. It's about 100 lira and gives you a feel for the real waterfront rhythm before you commit to a full meze spread somewhere fancier.

honestly the best move is to just ask for "acısız" when you order, it's simpler than dancing around it. most places in boğaziçi are used to it and won't judge you. for a mild starter, go with the lakerda (cured bonito) or the çiroz (sun-dried mackerel), they're both naturally gentle and the real deal. and if you're doing rakı, stick to a double with water and ice, the ice helps numb your tongue a bit between bites

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
