I'd actually point you toward the little cobblestone lane behind the Stadtbibliothek, it's called Spreeuferpromenade even though it's not really on the water. There's a bakery there called Bäckerei Richter that's been in that same spot since the 60s, they do a proper Berliner Pfannkuchen with plum jam that's leagues better than the tourist stuff at the Alexanderplatz stands. It's a two-person operation so don't expect speed, but the coffee is strong and you can sit on a bench outside watching the barges go by.

honestly, skip the main streets around fischerinsel and head into the nikolaiviertel instead, it's basically right there. there's a tiny place called zur letzten instanz that's been around since the 1500s, tucked down a cobblestone alley most tourists walk right past. their käsespätzle is solid and the beer garden in back feels like you're in someone's secret courtyard. just go early or expect a wait, it gets packed with locals who know the deal

The ivy-covered building you're thinking of is probably the one on Köllnischer Fischmarkt, it's a photo spot but not really a food destination. For something low-key, walk down to the canal side of Fischerinsel near the Inselbrücke and look for a small Vietnamese place called Mô Mô, it's in a former storage room with maybe four tables. Their pho is about 8 euros and they don't bother with a sign, just a red lantern out front.

Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
