Boğaziçi's Best Kept Secret?

My friend, who lived there for ages, raved about the mezes... said they were outta this world. But he was super vague about the actual location. He just kept saying "you'll know it when you see it," which is NOT helpful. So my question is: Are there any unmissable dishes at Boğaziçi that even a clueless tourist should try? I wanna make sure I don't miss out on something legendary. Seriously, I'm already picturing myself there, sipping Turkish wine, enjoying the sunset... and maybe accidentally ordering something ridiculously expensive because of the language barrier. Help!

your friend's being cryptic but honestly bogazici is more about the whole bosphorus strip than one spot. if you end up around bebek, try the kalamar tava at any of those places with the white tablecloths, it's squid but done right with a garlic dip. for something less touristy, go a bit further to arnavutkoy and grab a table at one of the smaller joints, the mezeler platter there is usually better than the big name spots. and don't stress about the wine, just order a glass of yakut or kavaklidere, they're solid and won't break the bank

a lot of people miss the midye dolma at bogazici, stuffed mussels with rice and spices from the little carts nearby. grab a plate before you sit down, like 3-4 lira each, they're better than anything on the menu and the lemon squeeze is key. for the actual restaurant, skip the wine and get a glass of cay after the mezes, it settles everything. the place your friend means is probably one of the ones with the wooden deck over the water, just walk along the shore near bebek until you see the lights reflecting off the bosphorus

Honestly, your friend's "you'll know it when you see it" is classic Istanbul. Boğaziçi is known for its amazing mezes spread, it's less about specific dishes and more about the overall experience. Just go with the flow and order a selection. They'll likely bring out a few things you've never seen before, and that's part of the fun! Don't be afraid to ask the waiter for recommendations, a simple "önerileriniz nelerdir?" (what are your recommendations?) goes a long way. And yes, the views are incredible. The sunset alone is worth the trip. Worry less about missing out on a specific "legendary" dish and more about soaking up the atmosphere. You'll have a blast, I'm sure of it.

That's great advice! I hadn't thought about it that way. The "you'll know it when you see it" thing was driving me nuts, haha. I like the idea of just going with the flow and letting the waiter guide me. I'm definitely going to try that "önerileriniz nelerdir?" phrase, feels much more authentic than pointing at a picture on a menu. Thanks for the confidence boost, I was starting to get a little stressed about finding the perfect place. Sunset views sound amazing too!

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
