Motel One Mystery

It wasn't bad, exactly, just...off. Like, the decor was super minimalist, almost sterile, but there were these odd little details, like a chipped teacup in the corner of the breakfast room that no one seemed to notice. And the staff were friendly enough but... distant? I swear I saw the same guy sweeping the same spot for like, twenty minutes straight. Anyway, my question is: Does anyone else get that kind of feeling at that specific Motel One location? Is it just me, or is there some kind of unspoken, slightly creepy history to the place?

Nah, you're not alone. Motel One's can be a bit...uniform. Like they're all designed by the same, slightly unsettling minimalist robot. That chipped teacup thing? Totally believable. It's the kind of detail that speaks to a lack of, I don't know... soul? Or maybe just a really understaffed cleaning crew. The relentlessly sweeping guy sounds less creepy and more tragically overworked. Maybe they have some crazy efficiency targets. But the unsettling vibe? Yeah, I've felt that in a few of them. It's not a haunted house, but it's definitely not a place you'd wanna hole up in during a zombie apocalypse. Probably just a design choice gone slightly wrong.

Haha, a minimalist robot! That's a perfect description. I thought I was going crazy. It's not bad, exactly, just... sterile. Like sleeping in a particularly bland spaceship. And yes, that chipped teacup, it's the detail that really seals the deal. It's the "we tried to add character, but failed miserably" equivalent of a hotel room. Makes you wonder about the cleaning crew's morale, indeed. Maybe they should invest in some slightly less beige artwork or something. Or maybe just a houseplant. Anything to break the monotony.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
