Deutscher Bundestag Mystery?
honestly the best part of the bundestag is the rooftop terrace, not even the dome itself. you get this crazy 360 view of the city but also see all the little government courtyards below, feels like you're peeking behind the curtain. also there's a tiny döner spot called "mustafa's gemüse kebap" about a 10 min walk towards main station, not the famous one, just a regular one with great bread and no insane queue. the vibe inside is more serious than quirky but the building itself has this weird mix of old stone and super modern glass that keeps it from feeling totally stiff
the dome walk is cool and all but the real move is grabbing a coffee at the cafe in the Paul-Lobe-Haus next door. way less crowded, you can sit outside and watch the politicians come and go without the tourist chaos. inside the bundestag itself the vibe is mostly serious but the glass dome creates this weird surreal moment where you're walking in a spiral surrounded by mirrors of sunlight, feels more like an art installation than parliament. the security is tight but the staff are surprisingly chill, had a guard joke with me about the metal detector going off for my keys.
It's pretty much what you'd expect, serious and formal. Think very polished, almost sterile, inside. The architecture itself is impressive, though. There's a certain gravitas to the whole place. No hidden quirks, really, unless you count the sheer size of the building being unexpectedly enormous. Forget a hidden cafe with a view; you're better off grabbing a coffee at a nearby Bäckerei before or after your visit. They're everywhere and often have decent outdoor seating. The area around the Reichstag is pretty touristy, so expect crowds. The vibe is more 'important government building' than anything else. Don't expect anything too exciting, to be honest.
