The architecture is stunning, all that brickwork... incredible. I spent hours just walking around the outside, trying to imagine what it must be like inside. They have tours, but they were fully booked. My question is, for those who've toured the inside, what's the most unexpectedly cool or interesting detail they found? I'm dying to know what hidden stories or quirks the place holds. Did you see anything truly unique, beyond the obvious scale of the building?

You might not expect this, but the best part for me was the old coal bunker area. It's not polished or impressive like the turbine hall, it's raw and grimy with this incredible echo that makes you feel tiny. They've left some of the original chutes and conveyor belts in place, and there's a specific spot near the top where you can see the Berlin skyline through a broken window, the contrast between the industrial decay and the modern city is striking. The guide mentioned that during the war they stored something else in there too, but that part felt more like a rumor than a confirmed fact.

I'm glad you got to see the outside, that brickwork really is something. For me the most unexpected part was the control room. They've kept it in a kind of preserved state, not overly restored, so it feels like stepping into a 1970s sci-fi film set. The rows of dials, the old Bakelite switches, and the massive central console with all those buttons you're not allowed to touch. It's eerie and fascinating at the same time, a real time capsule of industrial control before everything went digital.

ngl what stuck with me most was the massive mosaic in the main entrance hall. it's this huge abstract thing from the 70s, all oranges and browns and weird geometric shapes, looks like it belongs in a soviet embassy lobby. the guide said it was meant to symbolize "the energy of the people" or something, but honestly it just looks like a fever dream. most people walk right past it to get to the turbines, but i stood there for a solid 5 minutes trying to make sense of it.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
