Klingenberg's Echoes?

Felt like stepping into a Fritz Lang movie. I wandered around for hours, taking pictures, the architecture is breathtaking, all brutalist angles and imposing size. But, I couldn't find any info on the workers who built the thing, any stories about their lives, their struggles? It felt like a missing piece to the whole experience. Where are their echoes?

Check the small exhibition space inside the Rummelsburg S-Bahn station itself. The local history association put up panels a couple years ago with photographs of the construction crews from the 1920s, names and everything. The workers came from all over, some were former soldiers building the first turbine halls. Also swing by the bookshop "Buchhandlung am Traveplatz" in Friedrichshain, the owner collects old Betriebszeitungen from GDR-era factories and might have a few issues from the Klingenberg works council. The personal details in those newsletters are where the real texture of daily life shows up.

i get what you mean about the missing human layer. if you want to hear the workers' voices, try the oral history collection at the Berliner Landesarchiv on Eichborndamm. they've got recordings from former GDR industrial workers, some from the Klingenberg plant specifically. also worth checking out the book "Arbeiter in Berlin" by Ralf Hoffrogge, he covers daily life in the power stations around the city. the scale is impressive but it's the personal stories that make it real

you might have more luck looking into the Rummelsburg area itself - there's a small local history group that meets at the Nachbarschaftshaus on Fischerstraße. they've got old photos and some written accounts from workers who lived in the surrounding housing blocks built for the plant. also check out the exhibition at the Museum Lichtenberg im Stadthaus, they had a temporary display a few years back about industrial labor in the east. not sure if it's still up but their archives might have something. brutalist architecture is cool but the real story is always in the neighborhoods that grew up around these places

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
