My question is, what's the deal with the local wildlife? I saw a picture of a ridiculously fluffy swan on their Instagram. Are there other amazing birds or animals I should be looking out for? I'm a total bird nerd, and I want to know if I should pack my binoculars. Seriously considering an early morning walk around the lake just for the bird watching. I'm hoping for some serious nature encounters beyond that one majestic swan...

You'll want to take the S-Bahn one stop to Nikolassee and walk down toward the small harbor. That stretch has a heron colony that nests in the tall pines right by the water, you can see them from the footpath without disturbing them. Also keep an eye on the sailing boats moored there, the cormorants love to perch on the masts and spread their wings out to dry in the morning light.

if you're a bird nerd, definitely take the early morning walk but head towards the little bridges near the strandbad, not just the hotel's stretch. i've spotted kingfishers there a few times, they're tiny and electric blue, fly super fast along the water. also, the wooded path on the other side of the wannsee, near the schwanenwerder island, has loads of woodpeckers and sometimes a red kite circling overhead. pack the binoculars, you'll get your money's worth

the herons are the real stars tbh, they just stand there looking ancient. if you walk toward the pfaueninsel side you might hear the peacocks before you see them, they're loud as hell but beautiful. also keep an eye out for the green woodpeckers in the forest patches, they make this crazy laughing call

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
