Berlin's Hidden Courtyards?

O… I wandered down Adele-Schreiber-Krieger-Straße, expecting just another Berlin street. But then I stumbled upon these incredible hidden courtyards, lush, green oases tucked away behind the buildings. One even had a tiny, almost secret, community garden. My question is: How many of these secret courtyards are there, and how can I find a map or guide to explore them all? I only saw three, but I felt like I was missing out on so much. I bet some are only accessible by knowing the right people...

you prob walked right past a few without noticing, half of them just look like building entrances with a buzzer. if you're near adele-schreiber-krieger-straße, check the blocks around rosa-luxemburg-platz, there's a courtyard with a cafe called cafe mimi that's easy to miss from the street. the real trick is looking for open gates around 10am on weekdays, that's when deliveries happen and people leave them propped. also some of the best ones are in the back of those old factory buildings on brunnenstraße, no signage at all

honestly the third reply is closest to reality, no map exists because half of them are just random apartment block inner courtyards that happened to get plants. if you want a curated experience, the Haus Schwarzenberg side alley in Mitte has a few connected courtyards with street art and a tiny cinema, it's not secret but it's a good example of the vibe. otherwise just walk down any street in the area between Oranienburger Straße and Torstraße, there's like a dozen gates that look locked but aren't. the community garden you saw was probably one of the nachbarschaftsgärten, there's a few more scattered around if you look up "kiezgarten" on google maps

frankly most of the "secret" ones are just apartment block yards you can walk into if the door's unlocked, nobody cares. if you want a proper list, the website "berliner höfe und plätze" has a few mapped out but it's in german and not super complete. the real gems are the ones behind random doors in wedding, like the quiet garden inside the old osram factory on sickingenstraße, you'd never guess it's there from the street

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
