Best Coffee in Mitte?

So, I'm planning a trip to @Berlin next month and Café Josty keeps popping up. Everyone raves about the atmosphere, but the menu online is...sparse. I'm a total coffee snob. What's the actual coffee situation like? Is it worth the hype, or is it just Instagrammable?

You're right to be skeptical of Josty's coffee menu being sparse. They're more of a Konditorei than a roastery, so the beans are fine for a slice of cake but not for dialing in pour-overs. Head to Oslo Coffee on Auguststrasse instead. They're tiny, maybe four seats inside, but they rotate guest roasters from all over Europe and the barista there won't judge you for asking about extraction yield. A flat white is 3.80 and they'll actually ask what milk you want.

ngl, if you're a proper snob you'll prob be frustrated at josty. they serve decent filter but it's not their focus, it's more about the torte and the vibe. instead walk five mins to roasters like populus on torstraße, they do a rotating single origin that changes every couple weeks and the barista will actually nerd out with you about the tasting notes. a flat white is 3.90 and they use oatly by default unless you ask for something else. the space is tiny and loud but the coffee is genuinely good, not just for instagram

The existing replies already covered the specialty spots, but let me add a different angle. If you're in Mitte and want something that bridges the gap between Josty's old-school charm and the third wave places, try Distrikt Coffee on Bergstrasse. They do a solid filter rotation and the food is actually good too, which is rare. Josty is fine for a slice of history with your coffee, but the beans themselves haven't changed much in years. For the snob factor, The Barn's espresso blend is still one of the most consistent in the city, just be prepared for the stark white room vibe.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
