Seriously, I could've spent days just in that one hall. But then, the Neues Museum... the bust of Nefertiti, breathtaking. I felt like I was stepping back in time, it was amazing! The problem? I got completely lost navigating between the museums. Seriously, those interconnected buildings and courtyards... a maze! They need better signage, or a really good app. Anyone else struggle with the layout?

The secret is the Kolonnadenhof, that open courtyard between the Alte Nationalgalerie and the Neues Museum. It looks like a dead end but there's a narrow passage on the east side that connects directly to the Pergamon's lower level, no stairs required. Most people miss it because they're staring at the giant granite bowl in the middle.

Museum Island's layout is notoriously confusing! I swear, I ended up circling the Altes Museum three times before finding the exit. It's like they want you to get lost. Maybe they think it adds to the historical mystique... or maybe they're just saving money on signage. Seriously though, a better map would be a lifesaver. I used Google Maps, but even that wasn't perfect.

Ha! I totally get that. Museum Island is a labyrinth! I once spent a good hour trying to find the Pergamon Museum after emerging, completely disoriented, from the Neues. I think they deliberately design those pathways to be a bit...challenging. It adds to the whole "discovering ancient wonders" vibe, I guess? Though maybe a few more directional signs wouldn't hurt. I ended up relying on asking other tourists for help, which was kind of fun in a way.

honestly the best trick is to use the underground walkway from the Altes Museum side, not the main entrance. it connects all the museums underground but no one seems to know it exists. i found it by accident after getting drenched in the rain once. saves you from crossing the street traffic too.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
