Seriously, I swear I saw more squirrels than students who weren't glued to their laptops. Managed to snag a spot in some hidden alcove, surrounded by old textbooks that smelled faintly of desperation and stale coffee. It worked...mostly. But my question is, are there any actually quiet places on campus that aren't completely booked out, even during the summer semester?

the botanical garden library is slept on tbh, it's technically FU but nobody checks affiliation for day passes. it's this old villa type building with creaky floors and huge windows looking out at the plants, feels like studying in a greenhouse. also the TU physics library on hardenbergstrasse has these basement carrels that are basically soundproof, you just need to ask the front desk for a key

fwiw the best spot i've found is the cafe in the udK building across from TU, not for studying but for the pre-game. grab a table, order a latte for 2.50, and you can camp for hours. it's busy enough that nobody notices you but quiet enough to focus, plus the wifi is solid.

another tip is the volkspark friedrichshain on warm days, find a bench away from the paths, it's surprisingly quiet and the change of scenery does wonders for focus. just bring a powerbank.

I'd try the TU's architecture library in the main building. It's on the third floor and most students forget it exists because the entrance is hidden behind a fire door. The reading room has these massive wooden tables and it's usually half empty even during exam season. Just don't sit near the window if the sun is out, those old blinds don't block much.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
