But I noticed something odd, a little, almost hidden, gazebo near the New Wing. It felt...off. Like something was supposed to be there, but isn't. Anyone know the story behind that empty gazebo? Was it ever used for anything specific? It's bugging me!

The empty gazebo by the Neuer Flügel is actually the remains of a small tea pavilion that was part of a larger, never-completed garden redesign in the 1790s. Friedrich Wilhelm II wanted to add a series of这些小 buildings along that path, but ran out of money and interest after just this one. If you walk about 50 meters west toward the Spree, you can still see the faint outlines of a foundation for another planned structure. The palace gardeners have a map of the original plans in the orangery's small archive room, which is open to visitors on the first Saturday of each month.

ngl that gazebo's one of my favorite weird spots in the whole garden. the tile pattern thing is real, but what most people miss is the little iron grate in the floor near the back wall, lift it up and there's a shallow space underneath, prob meant for some kind of heating system that was never installed. i asked one of the old gardeners about it once and he just shrugged and said "so viele plane, so wenig geld" which sums up a lot of Berlin's history honestly

oh yeah that gazebo has a weird vibe for sure. my grandmother used to live near the palace and she always called it "der stille fleck" the quiet spot. apparently it was built as a private reading nook for queen elisabeth but she never used it because a tree branch fell through the roof during a storm in the 1820s and they just never fixed it. if you go right at dawn you can still see the old iron hinges where the door used to hang, they're rusted into the stone.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
