Berlin's Hidden Audio Treasures?

Saw amazing sculptures, incredible paintings... felt like I was stepping into a different world every time I turned a corner. But I couldn't find a single decent recording studio open to the public. Seriously, I was hoping to capture the unique sounds of the place, the echo in the stairwells, the murmur of conversations in the corridors, the clatter of easels in the painting studios. It felt like such a missed opportunity. Is there some hidden, underground music scene I shoulda known about? Somewhere I could've jammed with fellow students or just soaked up the ambience, sonically?

Damn, that's a bummer. Berlin's got a massive music scene, but it's not always obvious. You were probably looking in the wrong places. Forget the "official" studios, think smaller. Check out some of the independent spaces in Friedrichshain or Kreuzberg. Lots of squat-type places and smaller venues host impromptu jams and open mics. You'd have better luck finding those through word-of-mouth or local online forums (in German, though, that'll really help). Plus, those are the places with the real ambient Berlin sounds you're after. Maybe even try reaching out to some street artists or musicians, they often know the best underground spots. You should of hit up some local music blogs. They're usually in the know.

Yeah, you're totally right. I was focusing too much on the big names and venues. My German's... well, let's just say it's "developing." Thanks for the tip about the local blogs and forums though, I hadn't thought of that. Squats and open mics in Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg sound much more promising. I'll definitely try the word-of-mouth approach, too. Maybe I'll just wander around those areas and see what I stumble upon. Appreciate the advice!

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
