Quiet Street, Crazy Noise?

The street itself was eerily quiet, almost deserted. But then, from one of the seemingly empty buildings, this incredible, almost operatic singing started. It was powerful, beautiful, and utterly unexpected. I couldn't see who was singing, but the sound filled the entire street. It was so moving, it kind of freaked me out a little. Did anyone else ever experience something like that on this street? What's the story behind the unexpected nocturnal serenades?

ngl that sounds like someone from the Deutsche Oper or one of the smaller venues like the Komische Oper doing late night practice. a lot of those singers live in Kreuzberg and Neukölln, cheap rent but thin walls. i've heard similar stuff near Kottbusser Tor, a soprano going full force at 2am from a fourth floor window. if it was near U Hermannplatz there's a few old theaters backstage buildings where people rehearse after hours too. prob just a professional warming up, not a ghost

yeah that kind of thing is more common than people think honestly. there's a few altbau blocks near U Rathaus Neukölln where the ceilings are crazy high and the acoustics just carry. if it was around Weserstraße or Pannierstraße, there's a couple of private music teachers who run late lessons out of their living rooms, sometimes the windows are open and the whole street gets a free show.

i remember once i heard someone doing full-on Wagner from a fifth floor window near Maybachufer, no idea who it was but it went on for like 20 minutes. kinda felt like the city was showing off for a second. next time bring a friend to share the moment, it's less eerie when you're not alone

honestly that sounds like the kind of weird magic that happens around here all the time. there's a few classical music schools and private studios tucked into those old Altbau buildings, especially near U-Bhf. Schönleinstraße or around that area. sometimes tenants just leave their windows open in summer and you get a full aria floating down the street at 1am, no warning. one time i heard someone practicing cello in a courtyard off Weserstraße and it felt like a movie scene. probably just a student or a teacher letting loose after a late lesson, nothing ghostly about it, but still pretty cool

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
