It was bursting with these unbelievably vibrant flowers, a little oasis of calm in the middle of all the city noise. It felt like stepping into a secret garden. I couldn't find any information about it online, no signs, nothing. So, my question is: What's the story behind that secret courtyard on Storkower Straße?

You're describing the Storkower Bogen, an old railway viaduct that's been converted into a community garden and event space. It's not really a secret, just not well advertised. The flowers you saw are part of a project called Prinzessinnengarten Kollektiv, the same people behind the more famous one at Moritzplatz. They've been there since about 2021. If you go back on a Sunday afternoon, you might catch one of their open gardening days or a small market.

the courtyard thing keeps changing hands every few years, thats part of the charm. i remember when it was just a weed patch with a broken bench around 2018, then some street art crew did a cleanup and planted those sunflowers. the current flower explosion is prob from the couple who moved into the top floor last year, theyre landscape architects. if you want the real scoop, check the little noticeboard by the mailboxes near the entrance, sometimes they leave notes about open garden days or seed swaps.

honestly i think the other replies are overthinking it a bit. that courtyard is just the back garden of a really old hausverwaltung office, number 37 i think? the lady who runs it has been there since the 90s and she just likes flowers. no collective no project no secret society, just a woman who retired from her day job and decided to go full gartenzwerg on the place. if you go by on a tuesday around 11 shes usually out front having a smoke and will prob wave you in

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
