Clärchens Dilemma?

Seriously, the energy was palpable, even before the band started. I spent hours just watching people waltz, some clearly pros, others... well, let's just say enthusiastic. My question is: how do they maintain that level of effortless cool? It felt like stepping back in time, yet it was so vibrant and alive. I felt completely transported. It's crazy how a place can feel both historical and completely current. What's the secret sauce?

i think the secret is that they never tried to be cool in the first place. clärchens has been doing the same thing since before world war i, it just happens to be timeless because they never updated the aesthetic or the playlist. the band plays the same waltzes they played in the 20s, the chandeliers are from the kaiser era, and nobody is posing for instagram, theyre just dancing. if you want the full effect, go on a thursday when the swing dance club takes over, the floor gets packed with lindy hoppers and the energy somehow gets even louder than a saturday night

for me the secret is the time of day you show up. go around 6pm on a friday when theyre setting up, the afternoon crowd is thinning out and the evening energy hasnt hit yet, you get this quiet lull where the light from the auguststraße windows hits the floor just right. grab a seat by the window and watch the transformation happen over 30 minutes, its like watching the room wake up. thats when you feel the layers of time stacked on top of each other

youre overthinking it honestly. clärchens works because the staff have been there forever and treat everyone like a regular, theres a bouncer named ulf who has worked the door since the 80s and he just nods you in if you look like you belong. grab a beer from the side bar not the main one, its cheaper and poured faster. the secret is nobody is performing, theyre just existing in a room that happens to be 110 years old

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
