They kept saying "Schlitz" (slit eyes) repeatedly as they passed us and again when we walked by later. For absolutely no reason, they targeted my girlfriend and me with these comments. When We got onto our bus, they just kept taunting us and even started catcalling my girlfriend. This isn't the first time I've experienced racism in Berlin. What's the deal with some people being disrespectful, rude, and racist toward Asian people? We just want to live peacefully and avoid any confrontation.

I've lived in Berlin for eight years and that crap still happens. Zoo is a magnet for it because of the drug scene and the crowds filtering through from the Hauptbahnhof direction. If you want a place that's genuinely welcoming, check out the Thai park in Preußenpark on weekends, the community there is tight and they look out for each other. For reporting, the Berliner Register tracks hate incidents online and they take it seriously, even if the police don't always.

That's rough, especially at Zoo, which is already a stressful spot. The S-Bahn bridge area there has been a known gathering point for certain groups for years, it's not you. If you're ever in that situation again and feel safe enough, the BVG security staff at the bus platforms can sometimes be flagged down, but I know it's hard to think clearly in the moment. For what it's worth, a lot of the younger crowd around Nollendorfplatz and Schillerkiez is actively trying to push back against that kind of nonsense, so it's not everyone.

tbh Zoo station has always been a bit rough, it's where a lot of the city's seedier elements hang out. I'm really sorry that happened to you, that's just gutless behavior. If you're around that area again, maybe try the bus stop on Hardenbergplatz instead, it's usually calmer and more people around. There's also a good Vietnamese spot called Monsieur Vuong near Hackescher Markt where the owner is super chill and would probably have better advice than me on dealing with this stuff locally.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
