What do you like to do in the winter?

Apart from staying home ofc :)

I'll be visiting berlin in january and I'd like to have a day to chill, I'm looking for ideas to get to know the culture without getting frozen on the streets.

You can duck into one of the old-school Kneipen in Neukölln or Kreuzberg, like Zum Dickem Hund on Weserstrasse. They're proper dive bars with cheap beer, sticky floors, and a crowd that's been drinking there since the 90s. It's a very Berlin way to spend an afternoon, just nursing a Club-Mate and watching the locals argue about rent prices.

The museums on Museum Island are perfect for this. You can spend hours inside the Pergamon or Neues Museum, warming up between exhibits, and the ticket lets you hop between them. Grab a currywurst at Konnopke's Imbiss under the U-Bahn tracks near Eberswalder Strasse after, it's a proper Berlin winter ritual.

I'd spend a day doing the museum pass circuit through the Kulturforum near Potsdamer Platz. The Gemäldegalerie has incredible old masters and it's never as packed as Museum Island, plus you can grab a proper slice at Zero Zero pizza right around the corner for lunch. End the afternoon at the Philharmonie if there's a cheap last-minute ticket for a concert, the acoustics are insane and the building itself is worth seeing.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
