Contract terminated. Best ways to find a job?

I was living in a small town before and I was bored of living there, so I thought this thesis opportunity would be a great way to move to Berlin. In less than 2 months, my contract was terminated (yeah it sucks, don't ask why, and how because that's a completely different discussion), and now I'm looking for a job that can pay my bills at least for now. My plan was to apply for full-time skilled jobs during my tenure of my thesis contract as it was enough to pay bills, but now I gotta find something else for the bills. Any advice or any leads, that'll be awesome! Thanks :)

That's a rough spot to be in, especially after just getting settled. For fast cash while you job hunt, check out the temp agencies (Zeitarbeit) near Friedrichstraße or in Wedding -- places like Randstad or Manpower can often place you in warehouse or logistics work within a week. On the skilled job side, if you're in tech or engineering, the Berlin startup scene is still hiring on platforms like Berlin Startup Jobs or LinkedIn, but I'd also recommend looking at larger companies like Siemens or Zalando that have more stability and often take longer to fire. For a quick bill-paying gig, the cafes and restaurants around Neukölln and Kreuzberg are always looking for part-time help, and you can often start within days if you speak some German.

honestly, if you need cash fast and you're okay with physical work, hit up the Tempelhofer Feld area for delivery gigs. Gorillas or Flink are always hiring riders, you can be on the road in like a week and earn 12-13 euro an hour. not glamorous but it pays rent.

for something with less legwork, check out the job center at Rathaus Neukölln, they have a specific desk for people who just moved to Berlin and need quick placement. they're not always helpful but sometimes they have leads on admin or reception work that pays decent.

one thing nobody mentions is the Berliner Tafel - if you're strapped for food while job hunting, they do free groceries at various spots around the city. it's not a job but it frees up cash for bills. also hit up the Joblinge program, they help people with terminated contracts get back into work fast, especially if you're under 30.

rough spot for sure, but berlin's actually decent for bouncing back quick. if you're not picky, check out the gastro jobs in mitte or prenzlberg - a lot of kitchens will take you on the spot if you show up at 4pm when they're prepping for dinner, especially in döner or pizza places that don't care about german. pay's under the table sometimes too, which helps if your visa situation's tight.

for something less chaotic, try the temp agencies around alexanderplatz like adecco or randstad - they place people in warehouses in marzahn or lichtenberg within a week, 12-14 euro an hour, and you can pick shifts. i know a guy who did that for three months while applying for IT jobs, worked fine.

also, if you're under 30 and been here a bit, the job center at am alten gasometer in friedrichshain has a quick re-entry program for terminated contracts. they'll cover your rent for a month if you take a training kurs, which buys time. not glamorous but beats stressing over february bills

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
