As a first time visitor to Berlin I was looking around online and in some guidebooks to see if I can find places that sell used music (and books in English, maybe) but I'm getting conflicting information. Any of you locals have a place you could recommend? I'm interested in any genre, from Chopin to Cannibal Corpse. I know most flea markets are open on weekends only, I'll be in Berlin Monday 21 to Saturday 26 of October. Thanks!

For used vinyl outside the obvious spots, try Platten Pedro near S Warschauer Str, it's a bit tucked away but the jazz and classical bins are deep and priced fair. Also worth knowing: many Berlin record shops are closed Sundays and Mondays, so plan your digging for Tue-Fri when you're here. For English books, Bücherbogen under the S-Bahn arches at Savignyplatz has a solid used shelf, though it's smaller than the Prenzlauer Berg options.

honestly your dates are a bit rough for flea markets since most are sunday only, but you're fine for actual shops. for used vinyl try Dodo Beach in Schöneberg on Hauptstraße, good spread and they dont gouge you. for english books go to Shakespeare and Sons in Prenzlauer Berg, they got a used section downstairs and a cafe if u need to sit. if you want the grimy digger vibe, Hard Wax in Kreuzberg is mostly techno but the staff actually know their stuff.

The used book situation is actually easier than vinyl here. Pick up the free Exberliner mag at any Späti, the back listings still point to small shops guidebooks skip. For vinyl, check the Sunday Mauerpark market even though you leave Saturday, or hit the shops on Oranienstraße midweek since most open Tue. Bring cash, lots of these spots are cash only.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
