What's a good street or area within Mitte to stay in if you want to be close to plenty of food options and the main sights of Berlin?

I'll be staying in Berlin with my wife for about 3 days (plus a day trip to Dresden). I'll be staying in Berlin with my wife for about 3 days (plus a day trip to Dresden).

I'd aim for the area around Rosenthaler Platz. You've got Rosenthaler Strasse and Torstrasse crossing right there, both packed with restaurants and bars that range from Turkish to Vietnamese to modern German. The U-Bahn puts you at Alexanderplatz in two stops and you can walk to Museum Island in about 15 minutes. A friend of mine stayed near there last year and said the noise from the street was noticeable, so ask for a room facing the courtyard if you're a light sleeper.

honestly, the area around hackescher markt is solid if you want to be right in the middle of everything. you've got the s-bahn there plus a bunch of tram lines, and you can walk to museum island in under 10 minutes. for food, try auguststrasse or the little streets off it, lots of hidden courtyards with good spots like the one with the italian place that does hand-pulled pasta. just know it gets tourist-crowded on weekends, especially near the market square itself

Rosenthaler Platz is prob the best bet for what you want but I'd actually look a block or two west on Linienstrasse. It's quieter than the main intersection but you're still three minutes from the U8 and all the food on Torstrasse. There's a great little neapolitan pizza spot called 400 Gradi on Linienstr that does a decent lunch deal for like 8 euro. For the Dresden day trip, you can walk to Hauptbahnhof in 20 mins or take the U8 to Friedrichstrasse and hop on the RE there, takes about two hours

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
