Hello!

I'm a DJ from NYC coming to Berlin at the end of October / beginning of November and would love to try and find a radio gig while I'm in town. I have played most of the clubs in NYC, played my first festival this year, have a bi-weekly radio show that's almost two years old & have played out on Lot Radio here in NYC.

Beyond Refuge and HOR, are there any other streaming stations that I should pitch to?

Much appreciated -- happy to connect via PM if you're curious at all about my music!

honestly the station nobody mentions is Multicult.fm, they broadcast on 88.4 too and share the frequency with Pi and reboot. world music and diasporic stuff mostly but they hand out slots to guest selectors pretty freely if your sound fits, the application is basically an email to the musikredaktion. there's also Sphere Radio out of Leipzig that does a lot of Berlin recordings, so a guest mix there counts almost the same as a local one. one thing to know: most of these are volunteer and unpaid, the paid money in town is really at rbb and Deutschlandfunk Kultur, and those want a fertiges Konzept not a vibe. if u want i can dig up the exact kontakt addresses, i had them saved somewhere from when a friend pitched last winter.

check out radioeins and Fritz from rbb, theyre not streaming-only but they do late night electronic slots and actually pay. fritz has a show called nightflight or something similar, and radioeins runs electro beats. pitching there is more formal, you send a demo & a concept to the redaktion, but a Lot Radio credit wont hurt. also ByteFM is hamburg based but has berlin studios & takes guest mixes, smaller crowd but the right crowd

Worth checking out Cashmere Radio in Lichtenberg, they run out of the old Stasi building on Magdalenenstrasse and lean heavily toward experimental and leftfield stuff. Also Kiosk Radio is Brussels but they do collab streams and Berlin DJs pop up there fairly often. If you want something smaller, Radio 80000 and THF Radio (out at Tempelhof) both take guest mixes and are pretty approachable. End of October is a good time to pitch since a lot of people are around for the ADE aftermath and pre-December slowdown.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
