Firecrackers getting bigger and sooner in Berlin. Where is the police?
Now it's beginning of October and firecrackers are alr… I have been living for 12 years in Germany and 8 in Berlin. Last 3 year we had to leave Berlin on Christmas weeks so our dog can have some rest.
Now it's beginning of October and firecrackers are already beginning, pretty loud and often, they are pure bombs. Since they are only permitted on 31st, why is the police never doing anything?
The dog is having pretty hard times, it's hours of shaking. They already kicked us out of the city on Christmas, but October and November also? Is there any way to change it?
fwiw the issue is that the police legally can't do much unless they catch someone in the act, which is basically impossible with random bangers in the dark. the real problem is that the laws around pyrotechnik only ban usage on like 364 days a year, but selling them starts way earlier and nobody checks what people actually do with them after buying
what actually worked for a friend in Neukölln was going to their local Bezirksamt and asking for a "Gefährderansprache" for known repeat offenders in the area. apparently if you can identify specific people or locations the Ordnungsamt can actually send someone to talk to them, and that alone scared a few guys into stopping
also worth checking if your dog has a "Hundeausweis" with a noted anxiety disorder. sounds dumb but if you get the vet to document it, you can sometimes get the Tierarzt to prescribe real meds like Acepromazine instead of just CBD. we had to do that for our old dog and it made november through january actually bearable
yeah the police basically ignore firecracker stuff unless they catch someone in the act on silvester. the problem is enforcement is basically zero outside of that night. your best bet is actually filing a formal complaint with the Polizei online every time it happens, they have to log it and it builds a paper trail for your local Bezirksamt
i know a few people in Friedrichshain who got their Kiezdienst to actually patrol more during december after enough complaints. might be worth asking your local Bürgeramt about setting up a "Lärmprotokoll" where you document dates and times. it's a pain but it works sometimes
also check if your dog can get prescribed something from the vet for the anxiety, we used CBD treats for ours and it took the edge off enough that the shaking stopped
honestly the police dont care about noise complaints unless its like 3am and someone called it in. maybe try talking to your local Ordnungsamt they actually handle this stuff sometimes

yeah the guide's got the main stuff down, one thing i'd add is that the späti culture is legit for saving money but specifically the ones in kreuzberg near kottbusser tor have the cheapest beers, like 0.80 eur for a can of sterni. also if you're doing the sunday museum thing, skip the pergamon queue and go to the hamburger bahnhof instead, it's way less crowded and has cool contemporary art plus the building itself is a converted train station so it's a vibe
for food, i'd say the best budget move is not the döner but the falafel at yafa on sonnenallee, 4 eur for a massive plate and it's open till late. and tbh the reichstag booking is a pain but if you miss it, the rooftop at the kollhoff tower near potsdamer platz is like 4 eur and gives you a solid view without the hassle
solid write-up, one thing i'd add is that the 7-day ticket is actually 41 eur for AB but you can get a 4-trip ticket for 12 eur if you're only here a couple days and it works out cheaper than single trips. also the museum sunday freebie is great but it gets packed, like at the pergamon you'll be queuing for 30 mins minimum. for a quieter free option, try the brücke museum in grunewald on a weekday afternoon, it's small but has killer expressionist art and no crowds. oh and for a cheap meal, hit up mustafa's gemüse kebab at mehringdamm, that line is long but it's worth the 5 eur for the hype tbh
