If you have a place already, you can also try booking through the online service portal on a weekday morning around 7 or 8 AM. That's when they sometimes add extra slots for same-day or next-day appointments. The Burgeramt in Pankow near the Rathaus is another option that tends to have shorter queues if you show up right before opening, but get there by 7:30 at the latest.

walk-ins are hit or miss depending on which burgeramt you go to tbh. the online appointment system releases new slots at midnight for the next day, so set an alarm and refresh right at 12. also check for cancellations throughout the day, people drop appointments all the time. if you have a place already, you can book a termin up to two weeks out, so do that now even if it's not ideal, then keep trying for an earlier slot

Honestly, the online portal is a pain, but if you're flexible on which Burgeramt, you can sometimes find a slot in the outer districts like Spandau or Marzahn way faster than central ones. Also, some people swear by the one at Rathaus Kreuzberg if you're willing to queue before they open.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
