What is going on with the U-Bahn??

I know that the Berlin U-Bahn is infamously bad, but some lines I've seen are operating only every 20 minutes! Does anyone know what is going on?? I know that the Berlin U-Bahn is infamously bad, but some lines I've seen are operating only every 20 minutes! Does anyone know what is going on??

The thing nobody mentions is the Taktverdichtung promise from the Nahverkehrsplan. BVG was supposed to push 5 min headways on the core ring by 2025 but the driver shortage killed that, so what you're seeing is basically the old plan quietly rolled back. if its the U6 or U9 north of Wedding at like 22:30, 20 min is just the late evening Takt and always has been. honestly the Berliner Zeitung did a decent piece on the Personalmangel numbers a few weeks back if u wanna dig in.

tbh the 20 min thing hits different depending on the time of day. during rush hour it should be 5 min on the core sections, so if you're seeing 20 at 8am on U2 or U5 thats def not normal and worth reporting. the BVG has been running a lot of Kurzzüge lately too, so half the trains turn around early and it looks like a gap when its really just a short train. honestly the Schienenersatzverkehr situation this year has been rough, theyre doing a ton of Gleisbauarbeiten all at once before the colder months.

welcome to the club, it's been like this since spring honestly. the big one people forget is the U2 signal upgrade around Alexanderplatz and Potsdamer Platz, that's been eating headways on and off for months and it'll run into next year. also worth knowing BVG is down like 400 drivers so they cut frequency before they cancel whole lines.

if you're stuck waiting, the 10-min countdown on the platform displays is usually more accurate than the app, weirdly. and check whether it's a Kurzzug, sometimes the train only runs half the route and that's why your connection vanishes.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
