Hello, I am really struggling to find an eye doctor in berlin that has experience with my disease (endokrine orbitopathie/graves eye disease).

If anyone knows anyone please message me, don't write about anyone/clinics directly on the post as it is not allowed.

Mods, please don't delete this post. It's a horrible disease and I need help finding a doctor to help me. It's very hard finding any info online regarding doctors in berlin who treat it, and most eye doctors just do more basic things like laser treatment cataracts etc

If you're in the eastern part of town, the Augenklinik at Charité Campus Mitte also runs an Orbitasprechstunde, though Virchow is generally considered the more specialized one for Basedow. A practical tip that saved me a lot of time: get your Hausarzt to write the Überweisung with "Verdacht auf endokrine Orbitopathie" explicitly on it, because a plain Augenarzt Überweisung often just gets you routed to the general Sprechstunde. Also, the Basedow Selbsthilfegruppe Berlin meets monthly around Charlottenburg and members there swap doctor names freely, which is probably your best bet for current info since waitlists shift constantly.

Endokrine Orbitopathie is usually handled by the Augenklinik at Charité Campus Virchow in Wedding, they have a dedicated orbital clinic and coordinate with the endocrinology department there. You'll need a Überweisung from your Hausarzt or Augenarzt, and the wait can be a few months. If you're also dealing with thyroid levels, getting that stable first makes the eye symptoms much easier to manage, so worth pushing your Endokrinologe on that in parallel.

The Augenklinik at Charité is the standard answer but there's also a private practice route worth knowing about. Dr. Sibel Aydin in Charlottenburg (near Wilmersdorf, U-Bahn Blissestraße) has a Schwerpunkt on orbita and sees a fair number of Basedow patients, though you'll pay out of pocket unless you have a private Zusatzversicherung. Another option is the orbitalsprechstunde at Vivantes Neukölln, which is less known than Charité and the wait is usually shorter. For the endokrine side, Prof. Dr. med. Joachim Feldkamp at Vivantes is solid if your TSH-Rezeptor-Antikörper are still elevated.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
