ngl, the trick for me is places where you control the oil yourself. i hit up the asian hot pot spots near alexanderplatz, like the one on torstraße. you pick your own broth, just go with plain veggie stock, load up on tofu and greens, and skip the sesame oil drizzle. it's basically a custom meal, no hidden fats.

also, those kebab places that do "ispender" style, they grill the meat fresh instead of the vertical rotisserie. the one on kastanienallee, forget the name, but they

The key for me has been finding places that do one thing well and keep it simple. There's a little tapas bar on Goltzstraße in Schöneberg, La Tapa, where I stick to the gambas al ajillo but ask them to go easy on the oil, and the patatas bravas without the spicy sauce. The grilled calamari is also safe, just skip the aioli. It feels like a real meal, not a sad plate of plain rice.

Another thing that works is the Falafel spots that fry to order. I go to the one on Oranienstraße near the Bethanien, Ask for the falafel in a pita with just hummus and pickles, no hot sauce, no fried eggplant. The oil is fresh since they fry in small batches, and it never sits heavy. I've learned that it's less about the cuisine and more about the cooking method, anything flash-fried or drenched in sauce is out, anything grilled or steamed is usually in.

try the japanese places in pberg, specifically the ramen shops but skip the tonkotsu. get a shoyu or shio broth, it's way lighter and no dairy. yamagoya on mansteiner straße is my usual, they'll do a low-spice version if u ask and the chashu is pretty lean. also currywurst from a stand, not a sit-down place, get it without the sauce on the side and dip sparingly. the one at kottbusser damm near the u-bahn is less oily than the touristy ones.

another thing that works for me is turkish breakfast spots, the ones with just eggs, simit, and cucumber. no cheese, no sausage, just ask for olive oil instead of butter. folks at simitçi near hermannplatz are used to it, they won't judge. honestly the biggest game changer was learning to order like a picky toddler, plain everything, sauces on the side, and asking for a lemon wedge instead of vinegar dressings. that's opened up way more places than i thought possible.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
