Hi! I am running Berlin and will be there Thursday to Monday. I'm staying near the start with a group and do have some historical tours set up through the group.

I am mainly looking for:

Cool restaurants / bars/ entertainment not to miss

Restaurants to get simple marathon foods simple good pasta, simple (American type) breakfast (eggs, avocado, ) simple grilled chicken or rice

Fun sites to see (not historical as we are already doing those with our group)

I am so excited to visit but am a bit nervous since what you eat leading up to a race is so important.

Lastly, I do have a nut allergy- it sounds like Europe is relatively accommodative but any recommendations on communicating this would be helpful! Thank you!

tbh the pasta thing is easy, but watch the timing. Berliners eat late, most proper Italian places dont even open til 17:30 or 18:00, so if you want an early carb dinner friday before the race you might be stuck. look for places doing lunch hours or just grab fresh pasta from a market hall like Markthalle Neun in Kreuzberg, they have stalls open midday and you can get a plain pomodoro no problem.

for fun non-historical stuff, Tempelhofer Feld is worth a walk, its the old airport turned giant park, people windsurf on the runway. and if you want a weird Berlin night out, a Späti crawl in Neukölln is cheap and very local, just grab beers from the little corner shops and sit on the curb like everyone else.

on the allergy, dont just say "keine nüsse" bc that only covers nuts literally, and marzipan, pesto, and some sauces sneak hazelnut or walnut in. say "Nussallergie" and add "auch Spuren" if you want them to take cross contamination seriously. the written card idea is solid, do that.

Check out the Mauerpark flea market on Sunday if you're still around, it's a fun way to kill a few hours.

For simple pre-race food, look for an Italian place and just order pasta with plain tomato sauce or aglio e olio, most will do it without fuss. Breakfast wise, a lot of cafes do a decent scrambled eggs plate, and Turkish spots near your area will sort you out with eggs and bread cheaply. For the allergy, get a written German card from your phone saying "Ich habe eine Nussallergie" and show it, staff take it seriously that way rather than relying on your pronunciation.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
