Can I travel to Czech Republic with an expired Blue Card?

My EU Blue Card will expire in a few days but I have to be in Czech to meet a friend the week after. I will receive my new Blue Card next month. Can I travel to Czech and return with my expired blue c… My EU Blue Card will expire in a few days but I have to be in Czech to meet a friend the week after. I will receive my new Blue Card next month. Can I travel to Czech and return with my expired blue card, zusatzblatt and the response I got from the Landesamt for my appointment request?

Asking this here to know if someone has had a similar experience and how did it go for them?

i had a friend in a similar spot last year, he just drove across the border near schöna and nobody even blinked. coming back was a different story though, the bundespolizei at the train station in bad schandau actually asked for his permit and he had to show the appointment confirmation. they let him through but it took like 20 minutes of them calling someone

if you're set on going, the fiktionsbescheinigung is your best bet but you can also try to get a vorläufige bescheinigung from the ausländerbehörde, they sometimes issue those same day if you explain the travel urgency. the zusatzblatt alone wont do much imo, it's just a supplement not a valid permit

btw the czech side really couldnt care less, i've crossed near decin multiple times without any checks. it's purely the german re-entry thats the gamble

You're in a tricky spot. The short answer is that technically your Blue Card is your residence permit, and once it expires you're not supposed to re-enter Germany with it. In practice, the response from Landesamt plus the appointment confirmation might get you through a border check on the way back, but it's completely up to the officer. I've seen people get waved through with that paperwork and others get denied boarding on a Flixbus because the driver wouldn't accept it.

If you want to be safe, you could ask the Landesamt for a Fiktionsbescheinigung before you leave. That's the only document that officially extends your status while the new card is being processed. Without it, you're basically gambling on the mood of whoever checks your passport at the Czech-German border.

honestly i wouldnt risk it. the czech border isnt the issue, they rarely check coming from germany. the problem is getting back into germany. ive seen people get turned away at the prague airport check in because the airline checks your residence permit before they let u board.

the fiktionsbescheinigung is the right call, you can get it same day at some burgeramt locations if u explain ur traveling soon. without it you're basically hoping the border officer has a good day and knows the law about pending renewals. some do, some dont.

btw if ur driving back by car the chances of getting checked are pretty low, especially if u take the smaller crossings near bad schandau or something. but on a bus or train? much higher risk

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
