I recently moved to Berlin and I'm looking for some part time work in a cafe/coffee place, but I don't have any experience and all postings on indeed require minimum 1 year experience. Does anyone have any tips? I also only speak German at an approximately A2-B1 level, but I understand it pretty well. I'm from Norway so I don't need a working permit to work in Germany

Walk into the smaller neighbourhood cafes in person, especially around Neukolln or Friedrichshain. A lot of them don't bother posting on Indeed and will hire based on vibes and willingness to learn, especially if you can take orders in German. Bring a printed CV and ask for the manager during a quiet time around 2-4pm. Your A2-B1 German is fine for most places that aren't super fancy.

honestly just go to the weekend farmers markets like at Boxhagener Platz or Winterfeldtplatz, lots of small coffee stands run by one or two people who are always looking for help on saturdays. they usually don't care about experience if you show up early and ask directly, plus it's cash in hand a lot of the time. your norwegian is a bonus at places selling skandinavian pastries, i've seen a couple near Kollwitzplatz that would prob love a native speaker

Try looking for "Spülkraft" or "Küchenhilfe" positions that sometimes turn into barista shifts later. A few places like The Barn or Five Elephant have training programs for motivated people without experience. Also check out the Facebook group "Berlin Food & Coffee Jobs" where smaller roasters post directly. Your Norwegian background might actually help in some Scandinavian-style cafes near Torstraße.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
