I'm moving out end of month but landlord is unresponsive. What to do?

What do I do? I am operating on the assumption that I will/can leave end of the month. I plan on taking as many pictures as possible before I lock the place for good. But whats the best way to return the keys? How do I make sure they don't come after me with random damages or false claims if we can't do a handover together?
yeah you're doing the right thing with the photos. one thing to add - you can deposit the keys at the amtsgericht (district court) if they keep ignoring you. costs like 20-30 euro but it's the official way to prove you returned them. then send them another einschreiben saying where the keys are and that you'll be out by the 30th. they can't claim you never left if you have that paper trail and the court receipt
honestly, if they're ghosting you, you've done your part with the Einschreiben. take a video walkthrough of the whole flat, close ups of every wall and floor corner, and drop the keys at their office with a Zeugen if you can. if no office, send them per Einschreiben too and keep the receipt. the key thing is you need proof they got them back, or they could claim you never returned them and bill you for a new lock. for damages, your video is your best friend, but also send them a written summary of the flat's condition with the keys, dated and signed by a witness. they can't claim shit if you have timestamped proof and a paper trail
