Bonus question, am I supposed to attach all my documents to the contact form? Or do I just bring them all the appointment?
I submitted mine in late February and didn't hear back for about 8 weeks. The appointment they gave me was for 5 weeks after that, so it was a solid 3 month wait total. One thing I'd mention is that the appointment date they offer might be at one of the less central locations like the one out in Spandau, so don't be surprised if you have to travel a bit. You don't need to attach anything to the form, just bring all your paperwork and copies to the appointment.
fwiw i submitted mine mid-april and got a reply after about 5 weeks, appointment was for 2 months later. the weird thing is the appointment was at the main office on friedrich-krause-ufer not spandau like some people get, so it seems random. you dont need to attach anything to the form, just upload whatever they ask for in the form fields and bring the rest physically. also heads up the reply email has a link to pick your time slot, but its only open for like 48 hours so check your inbox daily

yeah the guide's got the main stuff down, one thing i'd add is that the späti culture is legit for saving money but specifically the ones in kreuzberg near kottbusser tor have the cheapest beers, like 0.80 eur for a can of sterni. also if you're doing the sunday museum thing, skip the pergamon queue and go to the hamburger bahnhof instead, it's way less crowded and has cool contemporary art plus the building itself is a converted train station so it's a vibe
