Hello. French visiting Berlin for the first time this week.

I heard that far right had sort of a success in the last regional election. I am not really much aware of the political climate during those elections in germany. But I wonder if there could be any strike in the street due to this evenment?

And don't misunderstand me. I'm much more willing to join the fight rather than complaining about it. I'm just curious.

Edit: i definitly used the wrong word. I was more thinking about demonstrations in the street than strikes.

It's true the AfD did well in Brandenburg and Saxony, but Berlin didn't vote that day so it's a bit more removed from the immediate reaction. That said, there's usually a decent-sized protest every Saturday at 5pm at the Brandenburg Gate called "Kein Krieg in der Ukraine" that draws all kinds of leftist and anti-fascist groups, so you could always walk over there and see what's happening. If anything specific gets planned, check the tag "BerlinDemo" on X or the Instagram account "berlin_demos" they post the next day's schedule every evening.

You're probably thinking of demonstrations, not strikes. There were some spontaneous protests after the election results in Brandenburg and Saxony, but Berlin has been quieter. Check linksunten.indymedia or the Berliner Polizei's official Twitter account if you want to see if anything's planned for the weekend. They usually post routes and times a day or two ahead.

Yeah there are usually counter-demos whenever the AfD or far right has a big moment, so you might see something in the coming days, but nothing major is scheduled yet. Check the Berliner Zeitung or local Twitter/Bluesky accounts for last-minute announcements.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
