Why does the milk in Berlin taste so awful?? Even the cheapest milk like the full fat one from the "everyday" brand tastes so good but nothing compares to it here in Berlin. Do you guys know any milk brands that taste like the Belgian milk?

I know this is weird lmfao

ok so i'm not belgian but i lived in brussels for a bit and i 100% get what you mean lol. the milk here is just different, it's all ultra-high temp pasteurized which gives it that cooked taste. try the "weidemilch" from denn's or alnatura if you want something closer, it's from grass-fed cows and has more fat. also check out the frische vollmilch from landliebe, it's in the refrigerated section not the shelf-stable stuff. honestly though nothing here will taste exactly like belgian milk because the pasteurization process is just different

It's not weird, the milk situation here is genuinely frustrating if you're used to Belgian dairy. The issue is that most milk in Berlin gets the ESL treatment (extended shelf life), which nukes the flavor. I'd skip the supermarket brands entirely and go to a Turkish market like Eurogida or a Biomarkt, the "Vorzugsmilch" from a local dairy like Brodowin is raw and unpasteurized, tastes way closer to what you'd get in Belgium. It's about 1.80 euro a liter at Denns or on the farm itself in the north of Berlin.

fwiw ive noticed the same thing and honestly just gave up on finding an exact match. the weidemilch from denn's is prob your best bet but even then its not quite the same. maybe try mixing it with a bit of cream to up the fat content?

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
