Hi! I'm travelling to Germany for my first time in October and staying in Berlin for a few nights. I have all of my hostels booked but I'm getting mixed reviews for where I should stay in Berlin.

I'm looking for a hostel fairly in the city centre as I will be going to a lot of museums and doing the classic sight-seeing activities.

I also don't really want a party hostel, I enjoy laid back and quiet hostels so if anyone has any recommendations please send them my way! Thanks :)

I'd skip the Mitte hostels if you want quiet, they tend to be louder and pricier. Check out the EastSeven in Prenzlauer Berg, it's a 15-minute tram ride to Museum Island but the neighborhood is calm and leafy with good cafes. They have a small garden and the staff actually enforce quiet hours, which is rare.

honestly the three little pigs hostel in kreuzberg is prob your best bet if you want quiet but still central. it's right near moritzplatz so you can walk to checkpoint charlie in like 10 mins and the u-bahn gets you to museum island in 15. the vibe there is more chill traveler than party crowd, they have a courtyard garden where people just read and stuff. only downside is the rooms are a bit basic but for the location and peace it's worth it

You could try the a&o Berlin Hauptbahnhof, it's right next to the train station so super easy to get to museums and stuff but the area itself is pretty quiet at night. not a party vibe at all, more like a functional place to crash after sightseeing. plus you've got the river right there for a nice walk

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
