Do you think i should look now already for a job and inform them of my plans, or does it seem a bit unprofessional so better after that? (Squeezing that in with studying/uni). I would like to work during the semester anyways but ideal would be to start now (bc it's summer:) ) and be able to save up a bit.

Honest answer: start now, but frame the trip as a fixed date, not a maybe. Cafes here are used to hiring people who've got a semester schedule, a week off in August is nothing compared to that. If you wait until after uni starts, you'll be stuck with the September rush when everyone's back and the good morning shifts are gone. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that many Berlin cafés close for a week or two in summer themselves, so your timing might even line up with their own break. Just check the place's Instagram before you apply, if they're posting "closed until the 15th," they're not hiring anyway.

apply now but be upfront, not apologetic. berlin cafes are used to seasonal staff and students, a 10 day gap is nothing to them. most places would rather hire someone who's honest about it than deal with a no-show later. also, if u start now u get the summer tips, which are real here, especially at spots near the parks or the spree. just don't mention the trip in the first email, save it for the face to face, that's when it comes across as responsible not flaky. plus u can say u're flexible with the semester schedule, that's a big plus for them rn

Starting now is the right call, but the key is picking where you apply. The touristy spots around Alexanderplatz or the East Side Gallery will be slammed in August, so they're more likely to work around a 10 day gap than a quiet neighborhood cafe. Also, many places here pay cash tips daily in summer, which is a solid buffer before uni starts, so even a few weeks of that is worth it. Just check if the cafe has a "closed for Betriebsferien" sign up first, half of Berlin shuts down in August and you'd waste your time.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
