Me and my friend Max signed a housing contract together 1 year ago, so we were both main tenants with a nice big place in wedding.

Now I am moving flat and need to de-register from this old place and register at my new one.

And Max wants to stay at the old place in wedding.

We are worried that if the landlord finds out that I registered somewhere else and am not living there they will kick out Max.

Does anyone know if landlords care where you are registered? And can they kick us out if 1 person moves but still keeps their name on the contract?

Thanks :)

I know you may not be legal experts but maybe somone has had a similar experience.

The landlord can't kick Max out just because you registered elsewhere. The registration is between you and the city, not a clause in the rental contract. What could be risky is if the contract has a clause requiring both tenants to actually live there, but most standard Berlin contracts don't have that.

The real issue is that you're still on the hook legally if Max stops paying or damages the place. You'd need to get off the contract properly, which means asking the landlord to let you out and let Max take over alone. Some landlords are fine with that in Wedding, others want to raise the rent or run a new credit check on Max.

I think you'll be fine honestly. Landlords here mostly care about getting the rent on time, not checking where people are registered. Just keep paying the full amount and don't mention it to the landlord. A friend of mine did the same thing in Neukölln and nothing happened.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
