Hey everyone,

My partner and I are planning a long weekend getaway in September to celebrate my birthday, and I'd love to hear your suggestions. We have the Deutschlandticket, so anywhere we can reach with that would be perfect.

We're looking for a chill time, good food, maybe some wine or craft beer. I'm also into hiking and spending time in nature, though we're not planning to camp this time around.

If you have any spots in mind that match this, I'd really appreciate your recommendations. Thanks so much in advance!

honestly, take the RE1 to Brandenburg an der Havel. it's like an hour from Berlin and totally underrated. the old town has a bunch of small cafes and a couple of decent breweries, plus the Dominsel area is great for a lazy afternoon walk along the Havel. if you're into hiking, the Beetzsee nature reserve is a short bus ride away and has some really nice trails through the woods and along the water. for dinner, try Restaurant Altes Rathaus right on the main square, their seasonal menu is solid and not too pricey.

For a mix of nature and good beer, take the RE3 to Fürstenberg/Havel. The town sits right on Lake Schwedtsee with a nice walking path around it, and you can rent a paddleboat for a few hours. A short train ride further gets you to Neustrelitz, which has a small but solid craft beer scene at Brauhaus am Markt.

if you've got the deutschlandticket, take the RE2 to Wriezen and then a bus to the Oderbruch. it's super flat and open, perfect for a lazy bike ride along the Oder river, and there are a few wineries out there that do tastings. check out Weingut Schwedt for some decent local wine. plus the little town of Bad Freienwalde has a nice spa if you want to unwind after hiking around the nature park.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
